Musée Magritte Museum is an art museum in central Brussels, Belgium, dedicated to the work of the Belgian surrealist artist, René Magritte. It is one of the constituent museums of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium.

What

“René Magritte: Hidden in Plain Sight” is an exhibition that seeks to find connection between the ouvres of the painter and his vast imaginary to create, even if you cannot see the created until it is unveiled. It interacts with your hearing, your looking, and even touching.

Recently, a series of paintings of the Belgian painter have been studied with methods like XR and IRR to uncover his techniques. This led to gradually discover four paintings that were originally one.

Approach

Navigation System: It should be seen in a way that you understand that all the artworks are connected, and are part of the same final piece, which is “La Pose Enchantée”.

Duration of the exbition: 3 months Estimated time of visit: 45 min - 1 hour Capacity per hour: 15 people.

At the start of the ideation process, I researched about the paintings and the painter, as well as the techniques that were used to unveil the former painting Magritte attempted to hide by repainting it.

Outcome

The exhibition contains four original paintings of Magritte, a copy of the reconstructed paintings, a documentation area with a vitrine showcasing the research process undertaken to unveil the painting and a projector that screens a documentary of the process.

The deliverables include: Sketches of the exhibition, a floor plan (both detailed and simplified), a zone system sketch, a wall plan, concept for the material of labels and its design and typography, a 3D render of the exhibition and promotional material with merch.
